You here the word 'Artisan' bandied around a lot...........but what is it?
Artisan bread is crafted, not mass-produced, baked in small batches, not on an assembly line. Whereas a commercial loaf may have nearly 20 ingredients, artisan bread will have closer to 4: Flour, Water, Salt and Yeast. You don't need preservatives, colourings or flavourings. Call us old fashioned but we prefer to use natural healthy ingredients.
Bawdens the Bakers is a family run business set in the historical town of Bampton, Devon.
The bakery was established in 1939 by Frank J Bawden and is still in his family today. Using traditional methods of baking, the bread is still handcrafted by master bakers on the premises.
